There is a shortage of people in the WTBTS and they know it. They are being hollowed out slowly but surely by their own ever changing doctrine. You may have noticed that they started using the word doctrine more referring to themselves as well as friends instead of brothers and sisters which is likewise intentional as unless you're an anointed one, you're no brother of Christ.

Of course they'll take potshots at 2 year old movies and 30 year old technology but hey, that just shows the age and speed of the people in charge. Depending on who's in charge in your area, you may or may not get an answer. Sometimes you have genuine people but most of the time they already know it's too late - once the truth about the organization has been demonstrated to a person it's hard to turn back, the rest just plugs their ears and goes lalalalalalala.

I wonder when they'll start admonishing us to go back to work, get a college degree and donate more money because that's just around the corner to keep the organization viable. They're massively selling off prime real estate around the globe, closing buildings and cutting costs everywhere. They're even piloting lowering requirements for certain positions and instead of using the standing 'monthly order of magazines per family' to a flexible number of magazines per congregation which you should only use what you need for the week thus reducing waste. They're also getting tighter on orders sent out. You can get a maximum of 24 bibles (1 crate) per congregation per month now (before it was 4 crates I believe), a maximum of 1500 tracts etc. etc. - order any more and it won't get tracked into the next month anymore, it just falls off UNLESS you have a special need approved by your secretary and CO. There's arrangements now to send extra special order literature around to other congregations instead of having it laying around and the CO actually gives your lit. servant a slap on the wrist if there is too much inventory. There's a bigger push on getting congregations to put their savings with the WTBTS instead of a local bank, they're even announcing REGULARLY from the platform now on how to buy CO's off-lease cars.

Elder's Manual Question

You can prove right from the scriptures that JW's are wrong in the way they treat DF'ed people.

Look at the claims they make to justify shunning: Matthew 18:15-19, 1 Corinthians 5:11, 2 Thessalonians 3:6 and then the rest of the article claims other WATCHTOWER articles (emphasis mine) as a source of authority.

First of all, Matthew 18 where Jesus tells us, treat them as heathens and tax collectors. The footnote in the WT reads that in Jewish Society those people were shunned however Jesus himself taught that that behavior was unacceptable and HE HIMSELF ate with tax collectors in order to help them. According to the WTBTS that privilege is reserved only to Elders+ in the organization thus granting themselves a privilege that either Jesus reserved for himself OR a privilege he allowed the Congregation to have (Jesus did not institute an organization/congregation with priests and privileges, something JW's claim they themselves follow). Also, at least one story about Jesus show that Jesus AND HIS APOSTLES (emphasis mine) were at a tax collector's house, enjoyed a meal and THE PHARISEES condemned him for doing this where Jesus CORRECTED them (emphasis mine).

1 Corinthians 5:11 - Read very carefully. If somebody CLAIMS to be a Brother but then goes on to do bad things thus showing by his behavior that he is a FALSE BROTHER, don't eat with such a person. This is a warning against people that would come in the congregation, CLAIM to be a believer and then subvert others from doing the right thing. This does not talk about somebody making a mistake or somebody turning away from the congregation willfully. This talks about people that willfully do bad things and then continue wanting to be associated with the congregation, being called a brother or follower of Jesus. I can understand that certain people should NOT be called Christians (or Jehovah's Witnesses) and I can understand that there are those that are going to attempt subverting or converting others from their Faith while continue claiming to be Christian (or JW's). ONLY THOSE should be shunned as they are a spiritual threat to true Christians if people believe in them (they are the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing).

2 Thessalonians 3:6 - Read very carefully again. If somebody IS a Brother but then walks disorderly or is idle (same word here could be translated as busybodies), stay away from them. Again, this talks about somebody who is maybe nosy and gossips a lot or that really has a bad influence in general on the congregation, stay away from them. Again, I can come into the thought that you might not want to associate people that have a bad influence on you or the congregation, people that lie, cheat, steal etc, people you don't want your kids hanging around for morality reasons. However Paul nor Jesus never admonishes anyone to hate or shun anyone. Merely treat them as somebody without faith. If you can, preach to them, if not make smalltalk like you would do with neighbors or work mates or just tell them that their actions are not acceptable to you personally - maybe you can convert them back. But NEVER in the WHOLE BIBLE (and I've read it through and through) can you find proof that admonishes anyone to stop all associations or treat badly those that have either no faith, lost the faith, made a mistake. The only ones you should really ignore and not go out to eat with is the ones that actively try to pull you away from your faith.

Should I contact the Society and tell them I want out?

as of late i have been thinking about this.

my sig other and i have successfully faded, and the last kh i attended (cards were moved to) was like 8+ years ago.

i really do not care either way, however i have been asking myself as of late if i should.

If you've been gone long enough and are no longer considered 'one of them' and nobody talks about you (you have no family in the KH) they won't even announce it. You must put in that you refuse all contact though otherwise they'll be on your doorstep every year.

i am trying to prove or disprove a statement that i read today.

i read a statement by someone that i trust that the wtbts purposely distorts the number of anointed left alive in their reports.. i used to be a jehovah's witness.

i know all of their teachings very well.

@cameo-d: This viewpoint has been altered. It is quite possible for there to be anointed in paradise that will just die of naturally (the only people that will die in paradise) according to WTBTS interpretation.

There is no set criteria to become anointed other than a feeling of being called to this position. As I said before, if they would publish any criteria or requirements these could be held against (all future and past) members of the writing department and the faithful and discreet slave (the goons at HQ) as well as others in certain positions throughout the organization which would not be a good thing to the image of the Watchtower Org. Also it would mean that the anointed in HQ and the anointed elsewhere would have equal or even better status if they match the requirements somehow (whether they are true or false) which is NOT what they want - imagine somebody either in your congregation or in HQ matching the requirements better than Don Adams, it would be a schism like the one when Russell died.

our public talk and wt study is on saturdays.

i was informed by an elder that i shouldn't leave right away after the meeting.. immediately i had a sinking feeling in my stomach.

but not as bad as i would have felt about it months ago.

I feel for you, I'm in a similar situation. I'm too deep in to fade or disappear. However I do expose as much as possible, put my question marks behind certain viewpoints but in a quizzing way which seems to be great when you're in a group, you're considered being spiritual and studying 'the deep things' and in case somebody decides to investigate further they'll most likely start to understand and find themselves things that are going against all logical thinking.

I'm one of those persons people think is doing great, being blessed, getting Holy Spirit etc. etc. I'm up for promotion actually (the gossip mill is abuzz about it and all the numbers and little points they 'counseled' me on are starting to look good) and it will be really funny for me personally to see an apostate promoted into a position that is supposed to be decided by Holy Spirit itself.

If you're looking to DA yourself, don't do it in a letter that nobody will ever hear about. Go out with a bang - do it in a talk. Work through your subject logically and expose the flaws where the WT goes against the word of the Bible (such as it's viewpoint on Blood or the position of the FDS) by the end of the talk you will have a bunch of confused looking people especially if they respect you, they might even follow your reasoning straight out. The damage control after that is going to be even funnier most elders are not all that educated in the truly 'deep things' of the Bible to even understand what you brought and you might even get away with it if you are subtle (don't call them out) and don't announce yourself to be disassociated.

According to the latest guidelines, the local elders have to talk to the person and assess whether they are truly an anointed one. They cannot judge however (as then they would have the power to judge the *upper class* owners of the WTBTS and visiting *overlords* Bethel speakers) but the person needs to have a basic understanding of what the symbols entail, then they can be counted and reported to the WTBTS.

There is an ever-increasing number (11,000+ last year) which is why they had to alter their stance on 1935 recently, most old-style anointed should be dead by now. I'm just waiting to see what happens when the numbers start reaching epic proportions (30,000+ or 144,000+) which should be within the decade if it continues like this.

Witnesses probably have the largest amount of converts compared to their active membership but also the largest turnover.

Pew Research: Jehovah's Witnesses have the lowest retention rate of any religious tradition. Only 37% of all those who say they were raised as Jehovah's Witnesses still identify themselves as Jehovah's Witnesses.

It's all in how you look at the statistics. People still claim that JW's are the fastest growing religion in percentages in the US (what was it 2% last year?) but then on the other hand, Islam is worldwide because they also claim the babies and the countries they rule over.

Another interesting thing I noticed at conventions and assembly's is how they never have enough money. It's especially brazen at places they DO have money in the accounts. One I attended recently went something like this:

We have 10,000 in the accounts from last time, we decided to donate 1500 to the Worldwide Work, 500 to the KHAA, we collected already 4000 (this report is from the first day mind you), the cost for this is 10,000 (in a JW-owned building nonetheless) which means we're short 6000, we count on you to fix this dear friends. WTF no, we broke even, we actually have 2000 left and then we're not done donating yet.

Are women more spiritual then men?

before you women jump all over me, this is just a observation.. first of all at least in this country women out number men in religion,.

across the board,(jw,s,baptist, catholic etc.

) you walk in any church.

I think it's because men are more level-headed and have a solution-based thinking while women are more emotionally attached to things. We men have it all figured out, in the beginning God should've just kicked them all out and started over again. Women like the romance of keeping sinners alive and letting the world go to hell to prove that God is a better ruler. Men have a bullshit meter that if things don't add up they will notice it. Women might also notice but it's not as strong, they're more naive and they're also sometimes emotionally bonded to certain places and actions (my grandmother did it, my family's there every Sunday).

The ratio of women to men is 60/40 (more females) among JW's. The women are indeed a strong army of lonely fuckers that apparently won't be getting off anytime soon (as among JW's they are forbidden to marry outside the lord and the only way to shag someone is to get married).

@Juan: It is well known that for years the Witnesses maintained segregated congregations, somebody even has a paper on it somewhere online. There are still some congregations that have continued growing historically that way, even in NYC (close to HQ, melting pot city) there is a hall where there are multiple congregations - one predominantly (almost exclusively) black the other predominantly white.

The main thing here is that the original paperwork stated that the 'owners' of the building were a group of trustees of the local JW's (before the RBC etc. existed). When the prices skyrocketed into the millions of dollars that parcel is now worth, WTBTS wanted to build a new one a little bit outside that area (where it is a lot cheaper even though it inconveniences a lot of people that live there (further drive, worse neighborhood)) and sell the building from under their collective @$$3$ by going to the local county clerk and trying to get the deed to the property since they thought they were (or wanted to be) the 'trustees'. The local elders thought that wasn't fair and went to the judge. They most likely will get disbanded and DF'ed by the religious organization but the question remains by the legal frameworks - who were the original trustees and how/where did this historically move hands. Was it to go down to the local BoE or did they ever intend it to be or sign it over to the WTBTS.

That's a problem in most KH's built before the 70's. Most congregations however just 'give up' control over the deed. Nowadays, the RBC just keeps the deed - you 'donate' your money in the Kingdom Hall Fund, you also contribute to the Kingdom Hall Assistance Arrangement (calculated per publisher) and then when you want to build a KH, you just loan the money you donated back from the WTBTS which you then pay back (with interest of course) over 10 years. The WTBTS doesn't ever lose money on this deal. It's also suggested that your congregation keeps extra funds not in a savings account but in a no-interest deposit with the WTBTS which is actually not supposed to be used for large purchases (like down payment to a KH).
